Located in the Southeast Corner of Alaska, Ketchikan is Alaska’s Gateway city. If you are cruising up through Alaska, Ketchikan will likely be your first stop. The “First City” clings to the side of mountains overlooking the Tongass Narrows. Much of the downtown is built on pilings.
The Tongass National forest and the largest salmon runs in the world created industries that Ketchikan grew up with. Still the largest producer of salmon in the world, all five species can be caught here, Ketchikan’s economy is changing to one of tourism.
When you are here, take time to visit the town, and please if you are cruising by your boat, or are looking for information about boating stop by the Ketchikan Yacht Club.
